Finding Your Child's Learning Style and Working With It
Curious Mind Admin
Understanding how your child absorbs information is the single biggest lever you have as a homeschool parent. The same concept taught three different ways will land with very different impact depending on your child's dominant learning preference.
Visual Learners
These children think in pictures. They benefit from diagrams, mind maps, colour-coding notes, and watching demonstrations before attempting a task themselves. When explaining a concept, draw it first.
Auditory Learners
They understand best through sound and spoken explanation. Reading aloud, discussing concepts in conversation, listening to educational podcasts, and using rhyme and rhythm to remember facts all suit this type well.
Kinesthetic Learners
They need to move and touch. Restlessness is not defiance — it is information-seeking. Give them maths manipulatives, science experiments, model-building, and opportunities to teach you what they've learned by acting it out.
The Truth About Learning Styles
Most children have a dominant style but benefit from all three. The goal is not to only teach one way, but to always include your child's dominant mode somewhere in each lesson.
